Kyla Brettle is an independent producer operating a sound production studio in Fitzroy, Melbourne, Australia.
Kyla started freelancing as a documentary maker and journalist in 1997 and has worked across a range of media including radio, television and print. She has recorded stories from remote and urban Australia and also overseas in South Africa and Afghanistan.
Kyla’s productions have been well received and her radio documentaries broadcast in Australia on ABC Radio National and internationally on the BBC, Radio New Zealand, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, JoyFM in Ghana, Radio Netherlands, RTHK in Hong Kong, and NPR in America. In 2002 Kyla won the Best New Artist Award at the Third Coast International Audio Festival in Chicago, and in 2003 her work was Highly Commended at the Australian Moving Portraits Audio Documentary Awards.
In addition to making her own programs, Kyla works as a producer, editor, engineer and consultant supervising producer for ABC Radio National and also lectures and tutors radio and television production at RMIT University.
Kyla is currently working on a number projects for ABC RN.
